What an amazing book. I am NOT a writer, but I am a voracious reader. I will do my best to sum up what I read, and my own recollections of Phuc growing up. He was always the Luke Skywalker to my Han Solo. We were inseparable from kindergarten through the 2nd grade, and I don't think I ever really noticed that he was "different" other than the fact that he had the coolest freaking eyes ever. (full disclosure, I clearly appear in the memoir, my hanged name is purposely transparent, but I would have known even if it wasn't) We were separated from each other by our second grade teacher, Mrs Boose, who thought we were too disruptive for each other. This was both good and bad, as it did quell the disruption, but as Phuc was my only real friend at that point (I still take a very long time to make friends, a trait Phuc does not have), the bottom fell out for me in 3rd grade. Phuc and I didn't really wind up talking again until high-school when the cliques we had fallen into or become part of weren't totally simpatico. We did however both still retain our mutual love of all things Star Wars. So... Background aside... I had No IDEA what had gone on in Phuc's life, and many of the horrors he faced. This book was just so relavatory to me, and presented in such a fantastic way. Phuc, I absolutely can not wait to hear about your girls reading this!Oh... Last thing, my paste addition ended in kindergarten, but I do still laugh at inappropriate times.Thanks so much for writing this! Here's to the amazing snow forts on Walnut Bottom Road!
